Empty Stocking Fund Campaign Tees Off

On Friday, the Empty Stocking Fund kicked off its 30th annual campaign with the Steve Scott Golf Classic. The opening event was huge success and brought in $6,295 for the campaign.

Since 1983 the fund has raised over $13.7 million for 15 health and human service agencies in the Colorado Springs area Pikes Peak region The Empty Stocking Fund partners with The Gazette, El Pomar Foundation, and the Bruni Foundation to reach the Pikes Peak community. El Pomar Foundation and the Bruni Foundation match dollars donated to the campaign. In 2012, the Empty Stocking Fund exceeded its goal to raise $1 million, and the fund plans to reach the $1 million mark again during the 2013-14 campaign. The campaign officially opens November 28, and it will run through January 17, 2014.

The Empty Stocking Fund team takes time to meet with each participating agency at the beginning of every campaign. This year the ESF team volunteered at the Care and Share Food Bank to learn about the organization firsthand. Through the Send Hunger Packing Program, the team packed food in backpacks and boxes for students at local school districts.  The Program is meant to bridge the hunger gap during weekends when students do not have access to substantial meals.  Empty Stocking Fund impacts the local community with similar programs at 15 health and human service agencies in the Pikes Peak region.
